About Me

"success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal" - Earl Nightingale.

I have experienced symptoms of depression, substance abuse, and have had thoughts of suicide. But, that just makes me like the 18% of high school students today who have 'seriously considered suicide.'

Today's discussions, philosophies, and treatments for mental health are really new, and as a culture we are not very good at creating environments and experiences for people to feel safe asking for help or even addressing our own issues.

Too often people, and in particular young adults, who may be grappling with big questions such as who am I, what am I doing, why am I here, are labeled as 'problems' or 'not normal' and may be afraid to say what's really going on in their mind.

When I was at my most low, I was afraid to say things like

  - 'I feel sad'
  - 'I'm afraid'
  - 'I feel lost'
  - 'I don't know what I'm doing'
  - 'I think I might need help'

and I didn't.

It took the right combination of professional support, tough conversations, meaningful work, and a reframing of my relationship to myself and struggle.

I discovered my own power to influence my thoughts, feelings, and life.  I started accepting more responsibility for who I was and how my life was going.  But not only that, I had the right circumstances so I felt capable to start down that path.

With the right support system of people, intellectual and social knowledge, and habits or practices, anyone has the capability to turn the corner on suffering.

I'm dedicated to spreading the word that anyone and every has that power. However, not everyone has the right circumstances in which to bring that power forth.

In fact, it's on us as a society to take it upon ourselves to create those circumstances for others, particularly young people, in schools,  places of employment, and homes so that they can flourish.

My message is simple: it's ok to struggle, you are not expected to go on feeling this way alone or forever, there is a path to feeling good, let's take the first step, the first step often is telling the right person.

Life can be worth living. You can get there
Introduce yourself and change the conversation
